The Cross River State Broadcasting Corporation, (CRBC), has decided to be financially independent by increasing its own Internally Generated Revenue.
Speaking to news men at NUJ Press Centre, Calabar, General Manager of the station, Samuel Nsor said state broadcasters have rights to independently source for funds to compete in the market.
He said they will use the opportunity of their maiden public lecture holding on Thursday 30, November 2023 to launch for N100 nillion to establish what he called Off Air ventures to help defray increasing costs of broadcasting.
“During the Maiden Public Lecture, we plan to raise minimum of N100m for a multipurpose facility to be established in Calabar.
“As you may know, most public broadcasting organisations are partially commercialised. So with such facility, we want to aim at increasing our IGR to help defray increasing costs of broadcasting instead of always waiting for state government and pay for other overheads.
“When established, the facility can be rented out regularly. This way, it will lead to financial independence. We’re hopeful that we will achieve our aim.”
Nsor also stated that the maiden lecture will set agenda for public discourse, maintaining that the media is to bring issues of importance to the front burner of national discourse.
He said that the theme for the event is “Entrenching culture of productive consciousness in a developing economy, the media experience”.
