Bauchi Governor Mohammed flags off construction of N1.817b access roads in state varsity, Gadau

Bauchi State Government on Friday, commenced the construction of a 2.6km access road at the Main Campus of State owned Sa’adu Zungur University Gadau, (SAZUG) at the cost of N1.817b.

The flagging off of the road construction was part of activities lined up for the University’s Maiden combined Convocation Ceremony slated for today, Saturday 16th December, 2023.

While performing the ground breaking of the project, State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed said that a confident contracting firm was engaged to execute the project inline with the contractual agreement.

Bala Mohammed who said education development remained the priority of his government, noted that similar projects would be executed in all the state owned high institutions of learning across the state.

The Governor also said that effective road projects in any given tertiary institution are an essential aspect of infrastructural development of the institution considering the usage of the roads on a daily basis, which plays a significant role in transportation for both the students, staff, and visitors across the institution.

He affirmed that over the years, rural road development tasks in Bauchi State have picked up at a fast pace, and his administration is increasingly focusing on rural roads considering there are various economic benefits offered by rural roads that make them equally important as national highways across the State 

Bala Mohammed further said that, “In fact, rural roads are often considered to be the lifeline for rural communities, where they play an important role in poverty alleviation in rural areas, enable the transportation of men, materials, and goods, lead to the diversification of agricultural activities, and boost rural as well as overall economic growth of the state and the entire country.”

He called on Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETfund to provide the university with more interventions that would go along way in complementing his administration’s quest to enhance quality of education and pursuing the reduction of out of school children.

The Governor had earlier joined in the commissioning of some TETFund intervention projects in the University.

The Commissioners of Higher Education, Works and Transport, Dr. Lydia tsamani and Hon Ibrahim Gambo Galadima respectively as well as Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Fatima Tahir all praised the Governor’s giant steps in addressing the infrastructure deficit in Bauchi State.

Speaking on behalf of the University Community, the Pro-Chancelor of SAZUG, Professor Ango Abdullahi described the project as a move to addressing the plight of the institution and expressed hope that when completed, it would provide a better place for teaching and learning.
