The Managing Director of Alliance Hospital, Abuja, Dr. Christopher Otabor, has disclosed that his hospital doesn’t compromise International standards on health services.

He made the disclosure in a press conference in Abuja, while disputing the claims in a story by Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust Newspapers alleging that Alliance Hospital is engaged in Illegal kidney deals from poor youths to wealthy individuals.

According to him, “Alliance Hospital has invested time and resources in response to the huge burden of kidney failure in Nigeria and the need to develop a World class kidney transplant centre to prolong the lives of kidney failure patients decided to establish a kidney transplant unit in 2017. The program has been running successfully till date with a huge success story in it’s trial.

“The procedure for transplant for is for kidney recepeint to present a donor for screening for compatibility and fitness for donation, ensure legal requirements: Donor must be 18 years or above; Donor must sign consent in the presence of two adult witnesses and a Donor is expected to swear an affidavit stating their age, and affirms that the decision to donate is free will and there is no compulsion or financial inducement,” he said.

Dr Otabor said the Abuja Police Command that investigated the allegations contained in the story of Daily Trust Newspaper found no merit in in the petition by Lawal Idris Law Firm.

He said the false whistleblower, Emmanuel Melody is not a staff of Alliance Hospital and that he is hopeful for the police to arrest him to further unravel his claims.

Dr Otabor calls on media houses to unravel those behind the trade and that has commenced a legal suit against Media Trust Limited and Lami Sadiq, the journalist. And that the Hospital will not pay the N150 million demanded by Adedoyin Salman as compensation.

Similarly, chairman of Abuja chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr Charles Ugwuanyi said they wouldn’t favour any side on this matter, that they have the right to protect the lives of patients and would the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council has a tribunal that penalised erring medical practitioners.

It could be recalled that Daily Trust Newspaper had published stories on hardcopy and on Trust Television about a story titled: ‘Inside Abuja kidney market where the rich prey on the poor.’
