Taraba pensioner appeals for payment of backlogs of over ten years of gratuity

A pensioner in Taraba State Bakari Muhammed Tukur has passionately appealed to Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas for the settlement of over a decade-long backlog of gratuity in the State.

who made the plea in Jalingo the State Capital said prompt action to settle the backlog of gratuity to Pensioners is necessary because majority of them are grappling with various health challenges while many have sadly passed away due to lack of funds for medication.
The retired Director Noted that the importance of honoring commitments to retirees is sacrosanct and called on the stakeholders in the State to collaborate in finding lasting solution to the lingering leadership tussle in the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Taraba State that has been before the Court of law for about five years now.
He expressed confidence on the Administration of Dr. Agbu Kefas hoping that the Governor will clear the backlog of gratuity from 2010 to date amounting to over forty billions naira.
Bakari Tukur said the payment of the backlog of gratuity will ease the financial burden on the Senior Citizens who have dedicated their lives for many years in service of the State.
“Taraba State pensioners are enduring series of hardships, painting a stark picture of our post-retirement challenges from delay in the payment of Pension and non payment of gratuity to non enrolment of retirees for Pension where retirees stayed for one to ten years without pension, inadequate healthcare support, retirees in Taraba State face financial problems and limited access to essential services the aging retirees in Taraba state often grapples with health issues, exacerbated by the lack of proper medical facilities, affordable healthcare, and financing the education of their their children” he added.
Tukur further said
“the plight of Taraba pensioners underscores the urgent need for systemic reforms to ensure a dignified and comfortable life for those who have devoted all their lives in the service of their father land.”
