Declare State of Emergency in bandits- prone areas- Taraba South Senator Jimkuta urges Federal Government

The Senator for Taraba Taraba South David Jimkuta has called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency declare a State o emergency in the bandits-prone areas in Taraba State.

Senator Jimkuta who made the call in Wukari during the Christmas celebration said 700 persons were killed and 50 villages completely destroyed by bandits in his Constituency within just three months.

The Senator raised alarm of imminent famine in the country if the rate at which farmers are killed by bandits continue.

Senator Jimkuta disclosed that the over 700 persons killed within the period and the 50 villages completely ransacked are from Ussa and Takum local government areas.

He expressed the urgent need for the Federal Government to declare a State of emergency in all Communities bedevilled by bandits and those enmeshed in Communal clashes in order to end the banditry in Taraba State.

Jimkuta who is the chairman Senate Committee on Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation expressed concerned that the latest attack on farming communities in his constituency may lead to famine.

He called on security agencies to come to the rescue of the people and save Nigeria from running into food insecurity by wiping out bandits from their hideouts in Taraba State to allow farmers to go about their normal farming activities.
