We don’t sell traditional titles, says Mangu district heads as Kombun honours Gukas, Dashal

Mwaghavul chiefs in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State at the weekend, converge in Kombun District to witness the traditional coronation of two prominent indigenes of the district.

The event which took place at the palace of the Mishkaham Kombun, also attracted top government functionaries from the state and federal level, including thousands of well wishers.

The Mishkaham Kombun Da. Audu Gambo Tetmut who was elated over the various contributions of the recepients, pledged continues recognition of outside persons in the district.

The royal father who performed the ceremony was full of praise to the recepients of the titles, which he emphasised they were selected after a careful observertion of their individual and collective comtributions to the district and nation at their various places of work.

He stressed that the action of the council could defendable saying “if you do something remarkable for the community the community must surely recognise you.

“These title holders are to assist the good administration of the people. A chief can not be everywhere and his eyes and ears can’t see nor hear everything, but you are the eyes and ears of the communities, and you should be seen to represent them well,” he emphasised.

“The Kombun community will.continue to honour those who are deserving of honour. But it is not automatic that such honour would be sustained if anyone is found wanting thereafter, so i urge these beneficiaries to guard this honour jealousy and continue the good job that attracted this honour”, he said and congratulated them for accepting to serve.

The recipients Chief (Mrs) Jummai Kizito Gukas, FRM1, was crowned as the the Kogorong girap kombum (Jaruman Mata Kombun/ the light of the Kombun woman) for her dedication to duty both in her place of work and the community and has been found worthy of the title and Chief Sale Dashal was bestowed Gu-Tatileng Kombun (Madugu Kombun or the leading figure of Mangun)

The Mishkaham Mangu, Da.Moses Dawop who remarked on behalf of other district heads at the occasion, said that the kombun traditional council’ pull them togather to witness this unique occasion was indeed, worthy of emulation.

He corrected the impressions that the various councils will only recognise those persons who could afford to pay (buy) the titles, saying only hard work and selflessness among other attributes are recognised by them.

He then charged the recipients to live above board and see to the development of the people and the community as a whole.

Among the district heads that grace the occasion were the Mishkaham Pyana,(Panyam), Mishkaham Bwai, Mishkaham Mangu. Mishkaham Mangun and other traditional title holders in Mangu LGA.

In an acceptance speech on behalf of the recepients, Chief Dashal said, “We thank the traditional council for identifying us specifically for recognition it is all God’s grace that has brought us here and we shall not let Kombun community down.

“We pledge to cooperate and give our contributions for the upliftment of Kombun people in particular, while focus on the areas to better the community and advise the Council accordingly for progress and development.
