The President of Ogbaru Main Market, popularly called Relief Market, a suburb of Onitsha, in Anambra State, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu, has said that Hero project in which traders from the market will benefit cash awards was his own way of empowering his traders.
Chief Ochiogu who spoke in an interview with newsmen in Onitsha, the Anambra State commercial hub said the project started in 2021 and it involved 50 persons, 10 of them got half a million each, while 40 others got N80, 000.00 each.
He said the programne could not hold in the year 2022 because he was not in the office but was resuscitated in 2023 after his return.
The market leader said based on huge confidence placed on him by the company due to what they considered as high degree of transparency he displayed in the 2021 first edition they increased the cash to one million to each of the 50 persons, all selected from the market.
He said the company equally used the programmes to compensate the market for being the highest seller of its brand of drinks.
Ochiogu said that it is his own way of empowering those whose businesses were shaking, hoping that this year’s own which would take place early next year would significantly increase both in number of beneficiaries and the cash award.
He said: “We are the highest seller of their both can and bottle brand of their products. We are also highest in beverage and provisions in Africa. I advise the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously especially now that things are difficult. Anybody who gets one million naira cannot be a hungry man again if well managed”.
The market leader commended Ndigbo for not joining the anti- President Bola Tinubu protest which have been rocking the North and South West over hunger and hardship in the country.
He said those who were clamouring for the South East to join the protest want to give them bad name in order to hang them.
He asked the traders to concentrate in supporting Governor Soludo who has been doing well in providing good roads, Solar Street light, free education in our basic schools from Primary schoold to Junior Secondary Schools in the State, security among others.
He warned traders to desist from those who are carrying money about, campaigning for 2025 governorship even when there is no vacant seat in Agu Awka.
