Inauguration of Goska women, girls safe space marks milestone in promoting peace, unity

In a remarkable stride towards fostering stability and gender equality, International Alert, in collaboration with UK Development, inaugurated the Goska Women & Girls Safe Space in Kaduna state, Nigeria.
The initiative aims to empower women and girls to address issues of justice, accountability, and gender-based violence, fostering peace and unity in the community.
During the ceremony, attended by local leaders and representatives, Mr. Paul Nyulaku, Country Director of International Alert, emphasized the pivotal role of peace in driving development. He underscored the inclusive nature of the initiative, asserting its benefits for all members of the community.
Yunana Markus Barde, Executive Chairman of Jema’a Local Government, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Christy Usman Yori hailed the project as a catalyst for positive change and urged women to utilize the space to voice their concerns and promote peace within their homes and neighborhoods.
Hannah Ward, Director of Policy, Advocacy, and Communication from London, lauded the collaborative effort and expressed optimism about future projects. She highlighted the significance of community-led initiatives in driving sustainable development.

Representatives from the Kaduna State Ministry for Human Services and Social Development, Mrs. Dorcas Inti affirmed the Safe Space’s role in facilitating dialogue and decision-making processes to enhance peace and unity.
The Executive Director of Global Peace Development, Ebruke Esike, celebrated the restoration of peace and unity in the community, emphasizing the importance of amplifying women’s voices to address underlying issues effectively.
The Village Heads of Goska and Dangoma extended their gratitude to International Alert for the transformative initiative, pledging to uphold its purpose and promote harmony among neighboring communities.
The inauguration ceremony was not only a symbol of progress but also a celebration of culture, as Kaninkon and Fulani cultural troupes adorned in traditional attire showcased their vibrant dances, uniting in the spirit of diversity and harmony.
The Goska Women & Girls Safe Space stands as a beacon of hope, empowering women and girls to champion peace, justice, and equality in their communities, setting a precedent for transformative change across Kaduna state and beyond.
