ALGON holds 48 national executive meeting in Nasarawa

The 48th National Executive Council (NEC), meeting of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), has resumed in Lafia the Nasarawa State capital.

Our correspondent reports that the agenda of the highly attended apex decision making body the umbrella body of the entire LGAs and Councils in Nigeria looks sketchy as at the time of filling in this report.

Our correspondent also reports that the meeting sequel to the Supreme Court judgement that expressly granted autonomy to Local Governments in Nigeria where the issue and other national concerns will be addressed.

The immediate past National President, Mr. Alabi Kolade David while speaking during the handing over to the new National President, Mr. Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, Executive Chairman Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State in Lafia on Friday, said ALGON had a successful transition in March 21st during its 47th NEC meeting at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja (FCT), in Abuja.

He applauded the new National President of ALGON, Mr. Aminu Mu’azu Maifata for the recent appointment of a Director General, Mr. Itiako Ikpokpo KSM

Our correspondent reports that the new National President of ALGON has taken over the mantle of leadership and playing host and presiding over the meeting.

Our correspondent also reports that close 100 percent attendance of both the Chairman Board of Trustees Chief Odunayo Ategbero and Exco’s members representing their states alongside other principal officers graced the occasion.

Our correspondent further reports that at the press time the leadership of ALGON is currently on a courtesy call to the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule ably represented by his Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe at the Ministry of Local Governments and Chieftaincy affairs with the Commissioner, Mr Mohammed Ohigye playing host.

It was gathered a communique is expected at the end of the strategic meeting coming up Friday.
