The Yola International Airport has been shut down following a tyre burst incident involving Max Airline’s flight NGL 1649, a Boeing 737 aircraft with registration 5N-ABD.

The incident occurred at around 7:15 pm as the plane was preparing to take off from Yola to Abuja with 119 passengers and 6 crew members on board.

According to eyewitnesses, the rear tyres of the aircraft burst, causing a loud sound and thick smoke, which disabled the plane from moving. Fortunately, all passengers were evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported.

The Airline’s Director of Public and Customer Protection, Bimbo Oladeji, confirmed the incident, stating that a team led by the Director of the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Captain Alex Badeh Jr., has commenced an investigation into the incident.

The Assistant General Manager, Corporate Communications, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Ijoma Nwosu Igbo, also confirmed the incident, stating that the probe panel will investigate the cause of the tyre burst before the aircraft can be removed from the runway.

The airport will remain closed until the investigation is completed, and the damaged aircraft is removed from the runway to ensure safe takeoff and landing of other planes.
