Okpoko property owners sue Police, Anambra LG commissioner, ex-LG chairman, others over illegal arrest, detention of members, demands N600m compensation

The Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG, Zone 13, Ukpo, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP, and the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, have been dragged to Court by Okpoko Property Owners for Illegal arrest and detention of their members.
They also demanded the defendants’ pay the applicants N600million as damages suffered by the applicants.

Three members of the property owners who were detained at Onitsha prison on the orders of a Magistrate Court are Chief Raphael Agu, known as Commodore, Hon. Onyebuchi Obi and Samuel Oscar Aballah.

Those also dragged to Court included former chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State, the President -General of Okpoko community and one Ugochukwu Ejezie.

In the case which is brought under fundamental rights enforcement Okpoko property owners are praying the Anambra State High Court sitting in Ogbaru to declare illegal the arrest of their members in the broad day light.

They also asking the court to grant an injunction against the defendants from subsequent arrest, intimidation, molestation and arrest of the applicants and other members.
