The Governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano has inaugurated the Court of Appeal Project Committee.
The Committee headed by Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) was given three months to conclude its activities and charged them to review and make recommendations on how best to establish a Court of Appeal in the State.
The Committee has the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matter, Barrister Pat Igwebuike as its Secretary.
Other members include Justice Anthony Igu, (rtd) Emeka Etiaba (SAN) and Barrister Uju Nworgu.
Inaugurating the Committee, Governor Obiano expressed confidence in the intellectual prowess of the Committee members and urged them to use their contact and knowledge to deliver on the laudable project.
The Governor, while expressing commitment and zeal of his administration to embark on the project, gave the Committee before the end of March next year to conclude, expressing optimism that the Chief Justice of the Federation and Attorney General of the federation will listen to the State government.
In a remark, the Attorney General of the State and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Uju Nworgu applauded the move by the Governor, noting that it will bring justice closer to the masses.
Barrister Nworgu who revealed that about sixty five percent of cases at the Enugu Court of Appeal are from Anambra, noted that setting up a Court of Appeal in the State will save cost and ensure prompt justice delivery.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matters, Barrister Pat Igwebuike said that with the State government’s momentum, the members of the committee will work assiduously to give people easy access to justice.
