By El-Yakub Dabai, Birnin Kebbi

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Dr Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Sokoto and other tates in Nigeria to borrow a leaf from Kebbi State in view of its unique mode of playing seamless and progressive politics without bitterness.

The Monarch was highly elated by the presence of three former governors of Kebbi State seated side-by-side with the incumbent governor at the 2024 Malam Abdullahi Fodio Annual Public Lecture on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi.

The Sultan described the scenario as unique, distinctive and unparallel worthy of commendation, saying that all the governors had put aside their political differences and came together for a common goal of promoting Abdullahi Fodio’s legacies.

The Sultan described Nigeria as one big family in view of the cordial relationship existing amongst different regions of the country, observing that: “The event has brought together different traditional rulers from across Nigeria.”

In his speech, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State appreciated Sultan for the accolades showered on the leaders, adding that he had served under all three former governors as a unionist and would work tirelessly to maintain the status quo.

The governor assured the gathering that the lecture and all other cultural festivities in the four emirates of the state would be sustained to promote unity and understanding amongst the emirates.

“Today I want to announce that in order to further preserve the name of the great scholar for the younger ones, my administration has changed the name of Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero to Mallam Abdullahi Fodio University, in respect of his teaching efforts,” the Governor revealed.

On their parts, the former State Governors, Senators Adamu Aleiro and Abubakar Atiku Bagudu as well as Saidu Nasamu Dakingari, appreciated Governor Idris for his support to the traditional institutions.

They urged leaders at all levels to emulate the virtue and leadership style of compassion, tolerance, equity and transparency of Sheikh Abdullahi Fodio.
