Anambra State’s free antenatal care and delivery policy, launched in August 2023, has facilitated 102,643 deliveries and 343 Cesarean sections by the end of February 2025, according to the State’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike.

This initiative, spearheaded by Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, counters criticism regarding the government’s focus on social welfare programs.

Dr. Obidike highlighted the program’s success alongside the government’s significant investment in healthcare personnel.

Over 1,000 healthcare workers, including consultants, doctors, and nurses, have been employed, receiving monthly salaries of approximately half a million Naira, a quarter of a million Naira, and over 100,000 Naira respectively.

This investment, coupled with the employment of 8,115 teachers, brings the total number of new government employees to over 9,000, a long-term commitment to the State’s budget and future pension obligations.

Furthermore, Dr. Obidike emphasized the administration’s commitment to youth development through the 1 Youth 2 Skills Acquisition Programme, which has empowered thousands of Anambra youths.

He asserted that the Soludo administration’s investment in human capital development surpasses any previous administration in the State’s history.
