Abuja chamber of commerce dissociates self from fraudulent online meeting invite

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has alerted its esteemed members, staff, and the general public to a fraudulent message currently circulating online.
The misleading communication falsely claims that ACCI is convening a Zoom meeting that requires registration via a verification code.
The Chamber categorically dissociates itself from this scam and urges all stakeholders to exercise utmost caution. The Director General of ACCI, Mr. Agabaidu Jideani, in a statement Wednesday, emphasized that neither he nor the Chamber has authorized such a meeting, and therefore, any message or call suggesting otherwise should be treated as fraudulent.
“We strongly advise our members and staff not to respond to these messages, not to share any verification codes, and under no circumstances should personal information be disclosed to unknown sources,” he stated.
He further disclosed that certain individuals have been receiving persistent calls and SMS messages since March, urging them to join a supposed Zoom meeting by entering a verification code. “These messages are entirely false and did not originate from the ACCI.”
Specifically, the Chamber has identified calls and texts coming from one “Mr. Emmanuel” using the following phone numbers: 09165205764 and 08166115405.
These numbers have been flagged as fraudulent and have been reported to the relevant authorities. The ACCI IT Department is actively investigating the matter.
“We strongly advise everyone to avoid engaging with these numbers, refrain from clicking on any suspicious links, and to report such incidents immediately,” Mr. Agabaidu emphasized.
He also clarified that the Chamber has not scheduled any Zoom meeting for this weekend, and reiterated that all official communications from ACCI are disseminated strictly through its established and verified channels.
For verification or further inquiries regarding any ACCI-related communication, members and the general public are advised to contact the Chamber directly through its official platforms.
