Senator Isah Jibrin:  Face of hope for Kogi East

By Gabriel Agbonika

Senator Isah Jibrin, popularly known as “Echocho”, is a second-term Senator in the 10th National Assembly representing Kogi East Senatorial District under All Progressives Congress, (APC). His first tenure was in from 2019-2023.
However, long before he ventured into active politics in 2010, he was already a household name in his Kogi State place of birth. As a matter of fact, he earned his nickname of “Echocho” through his passion for philanthropy and commitment to serve his people when he was working as one of the senior Directors in the defunct AfriBank PLC. He had effectively used that position to secure many employment positions for the young graduates as well as upliftment of many people from business hardship seeking financial loan to improve their businesses.

Since he was elected into the National Assembly Senator Isah Jibrin Echocho was only appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs. In carrying out his duties over the years, he is considered by many people as a visionary leader who has demonstrated great empathy, compassion and willingness to serve his people.
But his recent additional appointment as Deputy Chairman of Senate Committee on North Central Development Commission, (NCDC), is regarded by many journalists covering the Senate as a recognition of his unique leadership qualities. In the opinion of one of them, who preferred not to be named, “we have worked closely with most of the Senators from Kogi State in the past fifteen years but we haven’t seen any of them as deserving our commendation as Senator Echocho. Only recently he donated laptops to our members from his Kogi State. He has shown great attention to our working conditions especially in the face of current economic hardship in the country.”

According to the journalist, “Senator Isah Jibrin should now be supported to use the unique opportunity of this new appointment in order to bring about more developmental projects to Kogi State in general. The numerous projects executed in Kogi East Senatorial District by Senator Echocho will go along way to consolidate his leadership position as 2027 elections process commence within the next few weeks.
I believe strongly that Senator Jibrin is not the rhetoric type of Nigerian politicians but a man of few words who believes in action that will bring more benefits to his people.  I am, therefore, convinced that from the several developmental projects he has initiated and executed as well as the people’s-oriented bills/ motions passed in the National Assembly, it’s crystal clear that his vision and mission for his constituents is the face of leadership hope for Kogi East senatorial district even beyond 2027 general elections.”

However, his plans to return to the Senate in 2027 will depend largely on how fairly his constituents value and appreciate his unique style of leadership and projects he has executed within the period of his leadership position in the National Assembly in comparison to what other former Senators before him had achieved.
