Senator Lalong elected as Senate holds North Central zonal constitutional review public hearing in Jos

Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State Simon Lalong is among members of the Senate Committee on Review of the 1999 Constitution currently holding a public hearing in Jos to receive memoranda from the North Central Zone.

Speaking at the opening of the Zonal public hearing, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Review Sen. Barau Jibrin represented by the Senate Deputy Majority Leader Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru said the Zonal public hearing is meant to bring the hearing closer to the people.

He said the review of the 1999 constitution is based on the demands of the people for adjustments to issues that are paramount to them as far as peace, development and security is concerned.

Senator Ashiru said the hearings which are holding simultaneously accross the six geopolitical zones will collate the views and submissions of Nigerians for consideration by the Senate.

He urged the people of Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger and Kwara to freely present their views and canvass their positions according to the democratic rights granted in the Constitution.

While declaring the public hearing open, Plateau State Governor Caleb Manaseh Mutfwang appreciated the Senate for choosing Jos to host their Zonal public hearing assuring that Plateau State will make history again as being a historical place where key national decisions are initiated and fulfilled.

Governor Mutfwang had earlier received the Senate Committee Members at the New Government House Little Rayfield Jos on a courtesy visit where they appreciated him for hosting them and ensuring a smooth event.

The Committee received presentations from various groups and individuals from across the States of the region on various issues including more women representation in governance, local Government autonomy, States and Local Government creation, state police, among others.

To close th day, Senator Lalong moved the motion for the adjournment of the days.
