Governor Soludo appoints Abia indigene as Anambra Accountant-General, Permanent Secretary in historic move

In a landmark decision that underscores his commitment to merit-based governance, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has appointed Mr. Joachim Achor, a native of Abia State, as the new Accountant General of Anambra State.
The appointment is unprecedented in the State’s history, as top government positions have traditionally been reserved for indigenes. However, Governor Soludo continues to challenge conventional norms by promoting competence and inclusion in public service.
Mr. Achor’s journey with Anambra began during his student years. He made a strong impression during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, where he earned the State Merit Award. His performance led to his employment in the Anambra State Civil Service, where he steadily rose through the ranks based on merit, eventually emerging as the Accountant General and permanent secretary.
Governor Soludo’s administration, since its inception in 2022, has made deliberate efforts to build a professional and inclusive civil service. Several non-indigenes have been appointed to key positions, including Mr. Adebayo Ojeyinka from Osun State, who currently serves as a Permanent Secretary.
The Governor’s latest move reaffirms his vision for a government driven by excellence, diversity, and competence rather than ethnicity or origin. Mr. Achor’s appointment is not just a personal milestone it represents a broader shift towards a more inclusive and meritocratic public sector in Anambra State.
Observers say this bold step could redefine governance in the region, setting an example for other States to follow.
