NUJ Anambra concludes 2025 press week with prestigious man of the year awards

The Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has rounded off its 2025 Press Week with a colorful Man of the Year Award ceremony held at the International Convention Centre, Awka.
The week-long celebration, anchored on the theme “The Media and Our State Anambra: Reportage in Election Year,” recognized excellence in journalism and outstanding contributions to society.
One of the high points of the event was the presentation of the Professor Chinyere Stella Okunna Award for Ethical Journalism, won by Aloysius Attah for his investigative report titled “Inside Anambra Troubled Community.” Ukpa Ewa emerged second runner-up with his feature, “Why Anambra May Not Produce Female Governor.”
The most coveted honor, NUJ Anambra Man of the Year Award, went to Architect Okechukwu Ezeobi, who topped the list of five distinguished recipients.
The ceremony drew notable dignitaries, including Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim.
In his address, Dr. Ibezim commended NUJ for recognizing excellence and urged the awardees to continue their good works.
Also speaking, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustainable growth and called on journalists to give more visibility to the legislature’s activities. He congratulated Architect Ezeobi and other honorees for their achievements.
Presenting the award plaque, certificate, and cash prize on behalf of the organisers, the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi, commended Attah for exemplifying journalism driven by professionalism and public service.
In her remarks, Prof. Okunna congratulated the winners and assured that she would continue to sustain the award to inspire ethical and impactful journalism. She described ethics as the foundation of credible journalism and urged practitioners to uphold it at all times.
On behalf of the NUJ leadership, Council Chairman, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, thanked members for their support in making the 2025 Press Week and award ceremony a success.
He assured that the union would continue to uphold professionalism and excellence in its activities.
Responding for the awardees, Architect Ezeobi expressed delight at the recognition and pledged his continued support for the council.
Other honorees included: Dr. Ifeoma Udoka – NUJ Anambra Philanthropist of the 21st Century Award; Hon. Ikechukwu Okafor – NUJ Anambra Most Inspiring Youth Leader Award; Dr. ThankGod Chibuike Anago – NUJ Anambra Most Outstanding Mayor of the Year Award and Dr. Nelson Obinna Omenugha – NUJ Anambra Most Outstanding Youth Leader of the Year Award.
The 2025 NUJ Anambra Press Week thus ended on a high note, celebrating both journalistic excellence and individuals who have made remarkable impacts in the State.
