As the November Local Government Election in Taraba State draws near a chairmanship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yorro Local Government Area, Ishaya Kunzang has promised to uplift the living standard of the people if elected into office.

Kunzang made the pledge while speaking with Apex News Exclusive in Jalingo, Taraba State capital.

He said he was compelled to accept the yearnings of the electorate for him to contest the office of the Chairman of Yorro Local Government considering the poor living standard of the people particularly the youths who are moving about without any direction.

The aspirant said Yorro Local Government is agrarian in nature and has markets in almost every village but there are no access roads connecting them.

“From Malam Audu, Kassa to Gampu there are no roads and the people find it extremely difficult to move their produce to the markets to sell and generate income to cater for their daily needs and get more revenue to the Local Government. I will do my best to open up feeder roads to reduce the hardships of the people,” he pledged.

The aspirant also cited lack of a tertiary Institution in the Local Government as a major set back to the people adding that secondary school leavers find it difficult to further their education and promised to lobby for the establishment of at least a diploma-awarding institution by the state government to ensure that the youth in the area obtain higher qualifications.

“I joined the chairmanship race for Yorro Local Government because of the clamour by my people who trooped to my house daily urging me to contest and expressing their full support. They even purchased the party nomination form for me at the cost of N300,000 and so far I am the only chairmanship candidate of the APC and so I cannot turned my back to the people,” Kunzang said.

On his chances of winning the election with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ruling both the state and the local government while the election will be conducted by the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC), the APC aspirant disclosed that he was in the PDP for a very long time but nothing is moving in the party in the state at the moment and moreover he will not refuse the demand by the people for him to contest.

“I know that the PDP is strong in the state but with the low performance of the present administrations and unfulfilled promises in both the state and Yorro local government and with the key in the hands of the electorate who brought me to limelight my chances of winning the election is very high and you know it is not a do or die affairs but will do my best as the People’s candidate,” he noted.

Kunzang described the N1million cost of intend form by TSIEC as too exorbitant and appealed to the electoral umpire to reduce the cost at most to N300,000 to enable all aspirants to obtain and to be just by conducting a free and fair election.

He also advised all eligible persons in the local governments to ensure that they obtain the voter’s card to exercise their franchise by casting their votes for him, urging them to conduct themselves peacefully during the election as Yorro Local Government is known for its peaceful disposition.
