Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, is celebrating the graduation of Ekuma Jeremiah Iziogo, also known as Jerry, who has just earned a Law degree three years after being offered a scholarship by Cubana.
Jerry first gained national attention in January 2022 when a short video of him went viral. In the clip, the young street hawker was seen sharing his meager earnings with inmates in a Nigerian Correctional Service van, demonstrating rare compassion despite his personal financial struggles.
The act touched many, including Obi Cubana, who saw the video during a live session with broadcaster Daddy Freeze. Moved by Jerry’s selflessness, Cubana offered him multiple opportunities including financial support and business capital. Jerry chose education.
At the time, Jerry had dropped out of Ebonyi State University, where he was studying Law, due to financial hardship. With Cubana’s support, he was able to return to school and resume his dream of becoming a lawyer.
Now, in 2025, that dream has come true. Jerry has officially graduated with a Law degree.
“Today, a journey that started with little or no hope has come to an amazing end,” Jerry wrote on social media. “Through the invaluable support of good Nigerians, especially Obi Cubana, I’ve been able to cross this finish line.”
He extended heartfelt gratitude to Obi Cubana, Daddy Freeze, and others who supported him along the way.
Reacting to the milestone, Obi Cubana praised Jerry’s determination and wise choice to pursue education over temporary comfort.
“On January 19, 2022, you chose education when given the option. Today, you’re a 2025 Law graduate! You could have taken the money and walked away, but you chose long term value. Now, you have both education and a bright future ahead,” Cubana wrote on his social media.
He also thanked Daddy Freeze and other supporters, vowing continued mentorship:
“Jerry must be successful!”
Beyond financial aid, Jerry also benefited from ongoing mentorship and emotional support throughout his academic journey.
The story has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians praising Obi Cubana’s generosity and urging others to invest in human potential and acts of kindness.
