There is growing concern of potential violence in Nkpor community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State following a dispute over revenue collection rights within the Nkpor Central Motor Park.
The dispute, according to our source, involve those vying for state government’s recognition and some opposition members.
Information available to newsmen suggests that some people opposed to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) were instigating the likely unrest at the Motor Park.
The source alleged that some people in the corridors of power in the State have enlisted some people who were initially responsible for the revenue collection, with the intention of destabilizing the peace and order that have been maintained under the current motor park revenue collections and management.
It was also gathered that over the weekend those in opposition to the State Government were said to have convened a meeting with some representatives of Nkpor youth at a hotel in Nkpor Agu with the purpose of instigating unrest in Nkpor community by creating misunderstanding in the motor park from October.
But concerned residents and commuters operating in Nkpor Central Motor Park have urged the state government and the security agencies to intervene proactively and prevent the potential disturbances.
During a fact-checking mission to Nkpor Central Motor Park, our reporter discovered that a meeting between the representatives of opposition and local youth focused on strategies to displace one Afam Uzoegwu from his current revenue management position within the park.
It was however gathered that some touts have been commissioned by the opposition to oversee the impending doom in Nkpor through the motor park crisis.
The touts name (withheld) allegedly have been positioned as key figures in this alleged peace destabilizing mission.
It was gathered that those touts who are members of Nkpor community youth and others have been circulating information within the motor park, indicating their intent to resume operations on October 1,2025.
Sources said they have vowed to deploy all available means to recoup all losses incurred since the current revenue collection system started.
Petty traders and many motorists expressed fears that the return of the youth to the motor park would expose their businesses to danger, stressing their satisfaction with the existing revenue management structure in the motor park.
Relevant stakeholders in Motor park business in and around Nkpor Central Motor Park have pleaded with the State Government and security agencies to proactively address the potential violence to prevent any casualties.
Several attempts to contact Mr. Afam Uzoegwu for comment were unsuccessful. Mr. Uzoegwu failed to answer repeated calls, nor did he return the calls.
Obinna Uzoegwu Obima said to be leading the opposition expressed considerable displeasure regarding the disclosure of his contact, initially issuing a veiled threat against the publication of his name.
But Mr. Obima subsequently softened his tone, stating that the matter is currently under the purview of the Transport Commissioner and the Director General of the Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AIRS).
He said all inquiries regarding the Nkpor Central Park matter should be directed to these officials as they are the appropriate sources to provide pertinent information on the issue.
