Three men remanded in Anambra over alleged same-sex activity

Three men have been arraigned in Anambra State for allegedly engaging in same-sex activity, which is considered an offence under Nigerian law.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects are identified as Chiziterem Nwankwo (20), Uche Paul (36), and Chinedu Maduekwe (40) were charged before a Special Court in Awka following a Police investigation.
The Police said the arrest and arraignment followed credible intelligence and subsequent investigations.
The case was forwarded to the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice, and prosecution was recommended.
The suspects have been remanded in a correctional facility pending further court proceedings.
Commenting on the case, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the rule of law and stressed that all actions were carried out in line with existing legal frameworks.
He called on residents to continue supporting law enforcement by sharing timely and relevant information to help maintain public order.
