Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong, has fulfilled his commitment to support victims of recent attacks in parts of his Senatorial District by facilitating the distribution of relief materials through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Lalong, who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, facilitated the delivery of food and essential supplies to internally displaced persons across Wase, Shendam, and Quaan-Pan Local Government Areas.
This was contained in a statement by Dr. Makut Simon Macham, Special Adviser on Media to Senator Lalong.
The distribution was carried out on his behalf by his Senior Legislative Aide, Hon. Maimako Bello, as the Senator is currently out of the country on official assignment.
The first point of distribution was Bashar District in Wase LGA, where hundreds of bags of rice, maize, spaghetti, cooking oil, tomato paste, seasoning, and salt were handed over for onward distribution to victims in Kampani, Bunyun, Zak, Gingin, and other communities grappling with bandit attacks.
Receiving the items on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mallam Barua Bunyan expressed appreciation to Senator Lalong for his compassion and continuous support.
The APC Chairman of Wase LGA, Hon. Shagari Yusuf, along with other community officials, also commended the Senator for standing with his people in times of distress.
At Doemak District in Quaan-Pan LGA, the team was received by the Long Doemak, Miskagam Cosmos Ndelong Dakyap, JP, who acknowledged that Senator Lalong had earlier sent financial assistance immediately after the attacks. He noted that the Senator has demonstrated true representation not only through relief support but also by engaging security agencies to prevent further incidents.
Similarly, in Shimankar Community of Shendam LGA, the Senator’s Liaison Officer, Hon. Edward Velwan Waziri, reiterated Lalong’s commitment to ensuring affected families regain stability. He disclosed that more empowerment programs and development projects are being pursued to enhance community resilience.
Receiving the supplies, the Long Menkaat, HRH Miskoom Manu Danjuma, represented by Ciroma Lawrence Labi, expressed profound gratitude to the Senator.
He described the intervention as timely and reaffirmed the community’s appreciation of the Senator’s consistent care, noting that his kindness will not be forgotten.
Speaking on behalf of the Director-General of NEMA, Mr. Nurudeen Musa, Chief Search and Rescue Officer of the North Central Zonal Office, said the Agency is pleased to collaborate with Senator Lalong in providing urgent assistance to affected communities.
He assured that NEMA in conjunction with Senator is working for the second phase in bringing other non-food relief materials to enable the victims reconstruct their destroyed properties.
He said the Agency will continue to partner with him to ensure timely response to emergencies and advised beneficiaries against reselling the items.
