In a decisive move to ameliorate traffic congestion, Nasarawa State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to completing the planned Karu flyovers and underpass project before the end of its administration in 2027.

Our correspondent reports that the state government had recently secured the approval from the Federal Government to construct two flyovers and underpass in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area of the state.

Mr. Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Abdullahi Sule on Public Affairs disclosed this at a bimonthly press briefing in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

The governor’s aide explained that the government had set aside the funds needed for the projects even before it was conceived.

He explained that the Governor Sule-led administration usually ensures it sets aside money before it embarks on any project since its inception in 2019.

According to him, the government would complete any project it has initiated and started because it does not believe in wasting money and abandoning projects.

He, however, narrated that the government had resolved to construct the two flyovers and underpass to reduce the persistent traffic congestion in the area.

His words: “This development is part of the government’s efforts to provide lasting solutions to the traffic challenges, particularly along the busy Karu-Mararaba corridor.

“The project will not only ease the movement for residents, motorists, and travellers but also enhance road quality and durability.”

The governor’s aide maintained that the governor had directed the Nasarawa State Urban Development Agency (NUDA), to carry out a feasibility study and assessment to ascertain the sights suitable for the projects.

While nothing that the Governor Sule-led administration was determined to commence the projects and complete them before the expiration of its tenure in 2027, he added that the agency was also to work out other details of the projects for onward awards of the contracts.

On the premature campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, the SSA stated that the governor had warned all political appointees to desist from premature campaigns or face sanctions.

Ahemba informed journalists that the governor was concentrating on delivering on his four-year mandate and does not want to be distracted before the ban on campaign is lifted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The SSA then affirmed that the governor had approved that the Universal Basic Education Board should organise an Education Summit to discuss the future of basic education across the 13 local government areas of the state, and the programme would be held before the end of 2025.

He hinted that the government had procured 20,000 plastic and wooden chairs and would soon be distributed to Primary Schools across the state to tackle the shortage of chairs and ensure that the students have comfort to learn.

On the rising cases of insecurity in the state, the governor’s aide reaffirmed the state government unwavering commitment to continue to support the security operatives with modern technological gadgets to enhance surveillance and intelligence gathering.

He explained that the state had concluded arrangements to acquire Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), drones, among others, as part of proactive steps to address the rising cases of kidnapping and other insecurity in all parts of the state.

He continued: “The government has adopted new strategies to deal with the pockets of kidnapping and other security challenges in the state.

“I assure you that the security agencies, in collaboration with other stakeholders, would do everything possible to flush the criminals out of the state.

“They have already commenced the implementation of the new strategy aimed at reducing crimes to the nearest minimum in the state,” Ahemba said.
