Nasarawa varsity honours excellence in research, innovation as postgraduate school hosts 2nd Lecture Series, holds Vice-Chancellor’s Research Grant Award ceremony

The School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), hosted the second edition of its Lecture Series alongside the Vice-Chancellor’s Research Grant Award ceremony at the S.B. Mohammed Auditorium.
Delivering the keynote lecture titled “Presentation Skills for Oral Defenses and Conferences,” Professor Moses Z. Zaruwa underscored the importance of preparation, confidence, and communication in academic presentations. He advised postgraduate students to “practice consistently, internalize key points, and maintain professionalism” when defending their research or presenting at academic conferences.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Linkages), Professor K’tso Ngargbu, congratulated the grant awardees and commended the SPGS for sustaining academic excellence through its lecture series.
He emphasized that effective presentation and defense skills are vital for researchers to communicate findings clearly and confidently. “These abilities,” he noted, “enhance the impact of research and strengthen academic engagement beyond the University.
The Information and Protocol Unit of University said, Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Abdullahi Adamu Sulaiman in his earlier address praised the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to academic excellence and lauded the awardees for their contributions to research and national development. He reaffirmed NSUK’s commitment to promoting innovative and impactful scholarship.
Deputy Dean (Research), Professor Titilayo Bamidele, highlighted that the event celebrated both research innovation and impact. She urged postgraduate students to deepen their engagement with research that addresses societal challenges.
The high point of the ceremony was the presentation of the Vice-Chancellor’s Research Grants to three outstanding postgraduate researchers:
First Prize (₦1,000,000): Bala J. Christiana (Biochemistry Department) — “Investigating the Possible Antileukemic Properties of Three Traditional Plants Eaten in Northern Nigeria.”
Second Prize (₦750,000): Uche Christopher Obi (Agricultural Economics and Extension Department) — “Comparative Economic Analysis of Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) Production Under Alternative Pond Cultures in Plateau State, Nigeria.”
Third Prize (₦500,000): Makanjuola Rasheed Osuolale (GHIDI) — “Bioengineering of a Novel Lateral Flow Immunoassay for Rapid and Simultaneous Diagnosis of Plasmodium Species.”
The event was attended by Deans of Faculties, Directors, postgraduate students, and members of the University community. The Special Guest of Honour was former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammed Akaro Mainoma.
