The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi made the remark in a message delivered on his behalf by the Director, Federal Food and Drug Authority in the ministry, Alhaji Abubakar Musa.
According to him, the federal government also remains resolute in ensuring sustainable access to affordable credit including through unlocking funding from commercial banks for small holder farmers.
Dr. Ogunbiyi also said the Ministry is strongly determined to continue to enhance agricultural productivity through mechanized farming with the recent launching of 2,000 tractors by President Tinubu, adoption of improved seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation systems, as well as the promotion of climate-resilient agricultural practices.
In his speech, the President, Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, PhD, noted that “we must remind ourselves that food security is not just about availability, it is about access, nutrition, and sustainability. Millions of our children still suffer from malnutrition and stunted growth due to poor diets. This must change.”
Represented by ACCI Vice President (Agriculture), Mr. Olasetemi Bode Thompson, Chief Obegolu said noted that FARMFATECH marked another milestone in the collective effort to transform Nigeria’s agricultural landscape through mechanisation, innovation, and partnership.
“We must revive the spirit of the ‘Food First’ philosophy, making food production a national priority once again. A food-secure nation is a stable nation; and a nation that feeds itself earns dignity and sovereignty,” the President stressed.
