The Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), Dr Iyela Ajayi, has urged State Senior Secondary Education Boards (SSEBs) to strengthen oversight of constituency projects being executed in senior secondary schools nationwide.
Ajayi made the call in Abuja when he received delegations from the Zamfara State Senior Secondary Education Board and the Kaduna State Senior Secondary Education Board during separate working visits to his office.
He stressed that proper monitoring was essential to ensure contractors delivered quality work within stipulated timelines.
Ajayi noted that NSSEC was currently upgrading 50 senior secondary schools across the 36 states and the FCT, adding that deeper collaboration with state boards would help accelerate the transformation of the senior secondary education sub-sector.
The NSSEC helmsman also urged states that were yet to amend their education laws in line with the NSSEC Act to do so, explaining that legal alignment was required for them to access NSSEC intervention grants.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the Zamfara State Senior Secondary Education Board, Hajiya Hauwa Na’ala, commended Gov. Dauda Lawal for prioritising education and establishing the board.
She appealed for NSSEC’s support in securing the governor’s final assent to the gazetting of the SSSEB law in the state.
Also speaking, the new Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Senior Secondary Education Board, Dr Suwaiba Ibrahim, said her visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration with the commission.
She pledged the commitment of SSEB Kaduna to fully pursue NSSEC’s mandate and work closely with the commission to improve senior secondary education in the state. (NAN)
