A former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has extolled the virtues of the late Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Joy Ogazi Ugwu, describing her as a solution provider and an amazing personality.
In a statement delivered on his behalf by Prof. John Kennedy Opara at a Night of Solemn Tribute organized by friends and close associates of the late Prof. Ugwu, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, former President Jonathan praised the late diplomat’s exceptional service to the country.
“Ambassador Joy meant a lot; she was a bridge builder,” Prof. Opara quoted Former President Jonathan as saying. “Her invaluable contributions to nation building will remain indelible in the sands of time.”
The late Prof. Ugwu, who passed away recently, was born on August 22, 1946, in Asaba, Delta State. She served as the Nigerian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, where she was privileged to chair the Security Council twice, showcasing her exceptional leadership skills. She also served as the Director General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs and as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, making her mark as a trailblazer in Nigerian diplomacy.
The former President Jonathan commiserated with the family of the late diplomat, acknowledging her diligent service to the country.
