In order to restore sanity, probity, due process and the rule of law in the nation’s public service, those who have attained positions of responsibility or seek to attain such positions by dubious, fraudulent, and criminal means should be made to face the full sanction of the law to serve as a deterrent to like minded persons in the future.
In this regard, the palpable case of Mr Emmanuel Odo, the recently appointed Acting Clerk of the Senate comes to mind as countless allegations of falsification of age, falsification of official documents, forgery, lying under oath and outright perjury have been levelled against him which cannot be swept under the carpet or be sundrily wished away.
Since Mr Emmanuel Odo’s appointment as Acting Clerk by the National Assembly Service Commission, there has been considerable unease and a groundswell of rising tension in the Senate as well as other precincts of the National Assembly as many staff and management are clearly unhappy and aghast at this manifest violation of public service laws, rules and regulations.
They cannot understand why they should work with someone who attained such high office by crooked and corrupt means and have expressed their utmost distaste and even disgust at numerous private meetings within the NASS complex.
Before things get out of hand, it is urged that the National Assembly political leadership, the National Assembly Service Commission and the NASS management conduct a holistic probe of the monumental allegations levelled against Mr Emmanuel Odo with a view to sanctioning him and others who might have conspired with him to commit such felonious actions, if found culpable.
The National Assembly as the nation’s apex law making body tasked with the enactment of credible legislation must not condone or be seen to be condoning such blatant acts of malfeasance and criminal falsification of documents allegedly carried out by Mr Emmanuel Odo.
If found culpable, he should be removed from office forthwith and be duly sanctioned in accordance with the law, no more, no less in order to restore sanity, probity, transparency, accountability, due process and the rule of law in governmental activities, operations and processes.
As the sages posit, there is no time to waste and a stitch in time saves nine.
To God be the Glory.
