North-East NBF hosts 50 athletes in historic boxing championship

The North-East Zonal office of the
Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF), is to host 50 athletes from the six states of the North-East subregion to an inter-state boxing championship.
The participants will be drawn from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states.
The disclosure was made by the North-East Zonal representative of the NBF, Rasul Muhammad Kashim, while speaking to sports journalists in Bauchi while holding trials as part of the activities to host the event on 25 and 26 December, 2025.
Kashim explained that, the essence of the championship tagged “Power Surge 2025” is to highlight youths in the North East and give them opportunity to show their skills in the games of boxing , strongman and weightlifting.
Kashim who said the athletes from the Six states will participate in both boys and girls categories, expressed hope that with such championships, someone from the Zone will represent Nigeria in the 2028 Olympics.
The NBF Zonal Representative, called on people of Bauchi state to come out during the championship and cheer the athletes in order to achieve more success of the competition.
Kashim used the forum to advise parents and other influential people in the North-East to encourage youths to engage in sports for the betterment of the society.
While thanking Bauchi state government for its support, Kashim added that officials from Nigerian Boxing Federation have been engaged to take appropriate records of participants and winners for future use.
On their parts, Weightlifting coach Isyaka Aliyu and that of Boxing Muhammad Taufiq, thanked NBF north east zonal representative for organizing the trials, saying they will continue training to ensure the successful hosting of the two day event.
