Senator Lalong lays electoral amendment report before Senate, expresses optimism on new Defence minister

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters and Co-Chairman of the Joint National Assembly Committee on Electoral Reform, Senator Simon Lalong, has presented before the Senate the report on the repeal and re-enactment of the Electoral Act 2022.

Senator Lalong explained that the report is the outcome of extensive and painstaking work undertaken by the Committee in collaboration with development partners and Nigerians from diverse sectors who contributed at various stages of the process.

He said the effort reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the nation’s electoral system and ensuring more credible elections.

The Senate, in a session presided over by Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio received the report and resolved to schedule deliberation for a later date.

Meanwhile, Senator Lalong has expressed confidence that the newly appointed Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa, will bring his wealth of experience to bear in supporting the nation’s security architecture.

He gave the assurance during the screening of the nominee by the Senate Committee of the Whole, noting that Nigerians are hopeful that the new Minister will work closely with the security agencies to address the country’s evolving security challenges.
