The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Federal Capital Territory Command and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) have taken a significant step toward strengthening grassroots security and improving service delivery, following a strategic meeting between the Comptroller of the NIS FCT Command, CIS Sharifat Ronke Ibrahim, and the AMAC Executive Chairman, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu.

During a courtesy visit to the Chairman at the AMAC Secretariat, Ibrahim emphasized the importance of closer inter-agency cooperation in addressing emerging security challenges, especially those linked to the influx and activities of undocumented foreign nationals within communities and local markets. The meeting was held at the Executive Chairman’s Conference Hall and brought together senior officials from both institutions.

In her remarks, CIS Ibrahim reiterated the NIS mandate to safeguard Nigeria’s borders and reinforce internal security through rigorous enforcement of immigration laws. She called on AMAC to strengthen its role in monitoring settlements and commercial hubs under its jurisdiction.
“AMAC is the closest tier of government to the people, and your support is invaluable to our mandate,” Ibrahim stated. “We are here to partner with the Chairman and his team to ensure that all residents—citizens and documented expatriates—conduct their affairs lawfully, thereby maintaining peace and order across the Council.”

The Comptroller also highlighted the need for prompt reporting of suspicious activities and undocumented migrants, urging community leaders, market associations, and traditional rulers to actively participate in intelligence-gathering that supports national security efforts.

Hon. Maikalangu, in his response, welcomed the NIS delegation and commended the Command for its dedication to securing the Federal Capital Territory. He assured the Comptroller that AMAC would remain a reliable partner through its grassroots structures.
“Security is a collective responsibility, and my administration is ready to provide all necessary assistance to the NIS to succeed in its mandate within AMAC,” he said. “We will intensify communication channels between our security task forces and the Immigration Service to ensure swift and coordinated actions.”

Maikalangu stressed that a secure environment is central to AMAC’s socio-economic development goals and pledged stronger collaboration with the NIS through community leaders, religious institutions, and traditional authorities who serve as gatekeepers at the grassroots level.

The statement made available on social media by Kingsley Madaki, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs
to the Executive Chairman, AMAC indicated that both parties agreed to establish a structured liaison mechanism to ensure regular information exchange on the movement and activities of foreign nationals. The framework will also support public enlightenment campaigns on the need for proper documentation of all non-Nigerians living and working in AMAC. This, they agreed, will promote seamless service delivery, improve compliance, and enhance coordinated security patrols.

CIS Ibrahim attended the meeting with senior officers of the NIS FCT Command, while the AMAC Chairman was joined by members of his Executive Council and top administrative officials.
