The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has commenced a three-day sensitisation workshop for its staff on the implementation of the Federal Government’s Performance Management System (PMS).
The Executive Secretary of NSSEC, Dr Iyela Ajayi, while declaring the workshop open in Abuja on Thursday, said the exercise was aimed at strengthening efficiency, accountability and excellence in public service.
Ajayi described the workshop as a critical moment for the Commission as it aligned with the ongoing reforms of transiting from old Annual Performance Evaluation Report (APER) to PMS.
He noted that the transition to PMS would ensure a more transparent, proactive and result-driven approach to employee performance.
According to him, while APER provided a retrospective assessment of work done in the past year, PMS offered a forward-looking framework that links individual performance with institutional goals, vision and core values.
“The shift to PMS ensures that every single individual, irrespective of their position, is recognised as a meaningful and indispensable contributor to our shared success.
“Over the next three days, we will delve into the principles and practical application of effective performance management, exploring strategies to set clear, actionable goals, and effectively track progress,” he said.
He commended the members of staff for their commitment to the Commission’s mandate, saying their dedication and hard work remained central to improved service delivery.
Ajayi explained that the workshop was designed not merely as a lecture series but as a platform for meaningful dialogue, collaboration and exchange of ideas to strengthen NSSEC’s performance culture.
