Governor Radda injects ₦10m additional empowerment support to 1,000 women, orphans, vulnerable in Katsina
‘Grassroots Foundation Will Continue Empowering Vulnerable Women and Orphans,’ Founder, Hajiya Nasiba Umar
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has provided an additional ₦10 million empowerment support to 1,000 women, orphans, and vulnerable persons in Katsina Local Government Area, underscoring his administration’s commitment to uplifting disadvantaged households and strengthening women-led enterprises.
The intervention complements an earlier ₦10 million empowerment initiative launched by the Founder of the Grassroots Charitable and Humanity Foundation, Hajiya Nasiba Umar.
Governor Radda made the announcement while flagging off the distribution ceremony at the Multipurpose Women Centre, Filin Samji, Katsina.
Speaking at the event, Governor Radda lauded Hajiya Nasiba Umar for her compassion and foresight, describing the initiative as “a shining example of how individual kindness can transform communities.”
He said, “This gesture is not just about money; it is about dignity, opportunity, and hope. When people support the vulnerable, Allah continues to support them. Our administration will continue to stand with women, widows, and young entrepreneurs so they can build sustainable livelihoods.”
Governor Radda recalled that Hajiya Nasiba herself had benefited from empowerment assistance in the past and is now giving back to support others.
“What we are witnessing today is the circle of kindness. Someone once supported her, and today she is supporting 1,000 women. This is the spirit we want in Katsina State,” he added.
He also urged beneficiaries to utilize the funds prudently, stressing that careful management of the capital will enable them to become self-reliant and eventually support others.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to women’s welfare, inclusive development, economic empowerment, and strategic partnerships that directly impact vulnerable groups.
Earlier, the Chairman of Katsina Local Government, Hon. Isah Miqdad, pledged continued institutional support to the initiative and expressed readiness to collaborate on similar programmes in the future.
He commended the beneficiaries as responsible citizens who appreciate the Governor’s people-centred leadership.
The Founder of the Grassroots Charitable and Humanity Foundation, Hajiya Nasiba Umar, explained that the foundation, established in 2018, focuses on assisting orphans, vulnerable persons, and individuals facing mental health challenges.
She said her motivation stems from her personal experience as an orphan and former empowerment beneficiary. Each of the 1,000 beneficiaries will receive ₦10,000, she disclosed, adding, “Poverty is not a choice; it is a condition that can be overcome through determination and support.”
Hajiya Nasiba further revealed that the foundation has rehabilitated orphanage homes and mosques, among other humanitarian interventions.
Also addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Hon. Albaba, emphasized the importance of collaboration between government and private organisations in tackling economic challenges faced by women.
He noted that empowering women has a multiplier effect on families, communities, and society at large.
In his goodwill message, the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi, commended the initiative, highlighting the critical role women play in sustaining justice, peace, and social cohesion in the state.
