The Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has welcomed Governor Caleb Mutfwang into the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and official entry into the ruling party.
Speaking at the formal presentation of the APC membership card to Governor Mutfwang, Senator Lalong described the development as a positive step that will foster unity, stability, and accelerated development in Plateau State.
Earlier, the APC Ward Chairman of Ampang West, Hon. Pius Shehu Dakop, disclosed that Governor Mutfwang approached the ward leadership and expressed his interest in joining the APC, after which arrangements were made for his registration in line with party procedures.
Hon. Dakop thereafter presented the Governor’s registration card to the APC Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area, Alhaji Ladan Garkawa, who in turn forwarded it to the State Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature.
While formally receiving the Governor into the party, Hon. Bature reaffirmed that the APC remains open to new members and encourages collaboration between new entrants and existing members to strengthen the party and ensure continued success. He confirmed that Governor Mutfwang had fulfilled all requirements for membership and was duly admitted into the APC with full rights and privileges.
In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang expressed delight at joining the APC, stating that his decision was based on personal conviction, extensive consultations, and a desire to align with the progressive family at the national level for the overall benefit of Plateau State.

Following his admission, the Governor paid his first official visit to the APC State Secretariat in Jos, where he was warmly received by Senator Lalong, the State Chairman, and other top party leaders.
Welcoming the Governor, Senator Lalong said the defection presents a historic opportunity for the political class in Plateau State to unite and work collectively towards building a stronger and more prosperous state.
In accordance with the provisions of the APC Constitution, Senator Lalong formally handed over the leadership of the party in the state to Governor Mutfwang, noting that where a sitting Governor is a member of the party, he assumes leadership.
Former Governor of Plateau State, Chief Joshua Dariye, described the development as a long-held aspiration that has finally been realised, expressing confidence that it would accelerate the progress of the state through unity and brotherhood.
Also speaking, Senator Diket Plang said the move would enhance synergy among stakeholders and strengthen engagements with the Federal Government for projects and programmes that will benefit Plateau State.
Member representing Pankshin, Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency, Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, welcomed the Governor to the APC and pledged the loyalty and support of Plateau members of the House of Representatives.
Similarly, the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Naanlong Daniel, assured the unalloyed support of the Assembly to the APC under the leadership of Governor Mutfwang.
The event later shifted to the New Government House, Little Rayfield, where Governor Mutfwang hosted party leaders and members to a luncheon.
