NCC-DRC holds town hall meeting with accredited neutrals

The Nigerian Chambers of Commerce Dispute Resolution Centre (NCC-DRC) of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) convened a Town Hall Meeting with its accredited Neutrals, bringing together arbitrators, mediators, and ADR practitioners to strengthen engagement and advance institutional practice.

The session provided an interactive platform to review the Centre’s operational direction, share updates on emerging initiatives, including Dispute Resolution Clinics, Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) under the NCC-DRC ODR Guidelines, and sector-focused ADR programmes, and to clarify expectations, standards, and opportunities for Neutrals.

This was contained in a statement by Amina A. Samuel, Asst. Media Officer, ACCI.

Participants engaged in constructive discussions on collaboration, quality assurance, and the collective role of Neutrals in promoting efficient, accessible, and business-friendly dispute resolution in Nigeria. The Town Hall reaffirmed NCC-DRC’s commitment to continuous dialogue, innovation, and the delivery of credible ADR services aligned with global best practices.

In his remarks, Dr. Elachi Agada, SAN, NCCDRC Council Member and ACCI Vice President, External Relations, encouraged Neutrals to remain relevant, consistent, and visible in their practice. He urged them to synergize, create awareness, and actively promote dispute resolution clauses, noting that increased visibility and referrals would benefit both individual practitioners and the Centre. He added that certification alone is not enough if one’s expertise is not widely known, stressing the need for Neutrals to continually put themselves out there.

Also speaking, the Director General of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Mr. Agabaidu Jideani, reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to strengthening the NCC-DRC as a credible and business-responsive dispute resolution institution. He noted that effective alternative dispute resolution mechanisms are critical to investor confidence, commercial stability, and economic growth. Mr. Jideani emphasized that the Chamber would continue to support initiatives that enhance the capacity, visibility, and professionalism of the Centre’s Neutrals.

The Town Hall also featured an overview of the NCC-DRC’s strategic direction, the formal introduction of its sub-panels, and an interactive question-and-answer session where participants shared insights and proposed practical steps for improving operations and service delivery. The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to strengthen collaboration, refine processes, and advance the NCC-DRC’s mandate as a trusted and forward-looking dispute resolution institution.
