The Nigeria Association of Auctioneers (NAA) is set to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and National Elections this weekend at the prestigious Villa Park Hotel & Suites, Abuja, in what observers describe as a defining moment for the profession in Nigeria.
The two-day event, scheduled for Friday, 13th to Saturday, 14th February 2026, will bring together auctioneers from across the federation to deliberate on industry growth, professional standards, regulatory partnerships, and leadership direction for the coming years.
Day One: Policy, Progress and Professional Development
The opening day, Friday, February 13, will focus on the Annual General Meeting (AGM), where members are expected to review the association’s activities over the past year, assess financial reports, and chart a strategic course for the future.
According to members of the National Secretariat, the AGM will also provide a platform for robust discussions on strengthening collaborations with key government institutions, including Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as security and regulatory bodies.
The chairman, Transition/Electoral Committee, Hajiya Salamatu Abdullahi described the gathering as “more than a routine meeting.”
“This AGM is about repositioning the auctioneering profession for greater transparency, efficiency, and national relevance. The value chain of auctioneering in Nigeria is expanding, and we must be proactive in setting standards that align with global best practices,” she said.
Industry stakeholders believe the session will address critical issues such as compliance, asset recovery processes, customs auctions, debt recovery mechanisms, and capacity building for practitioners.
The highlight of the event comes on Saturday, February 14 a date globally associated with love as members head to the polls to elect new national executives.
The Transition/Electoral Committee of the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers has confirmed that the electoral process will be conducted in line with the association’s constitution, ensuring transparency, fairness, and credibility.
In a statement issued ahead of the elections, the Committee Public Relations Officer (PRO) Emmanuel Okhumaile Esq assured members of a smooth and orderly process.
“All necessary arrangements have been concluded to guarantee a free, fair, and credible election. Members are encouraged to participate actively and uphold the integrity of the association,” the statement read.
The symbolic timing of the election has not gone unnoticed. Some members have described it as an opportunity for the profession to “renew its commitment” to unity and collective advancement.
“February 14 is a day associated with love and commitment. For us, it represents love for the profession and commitment to ethical standards and national development,” another member noted.
A Defining Moment for the Profession
As auctioneers converge on the Federal Capital Territory, expectations are high that the outcome of the AGM and elections will significantly shape the future direction of the association.
Founded to regulate and promote ethical auctioneering practices in Nigeria, the NAA plays a crucial role in asset disposal, debt recovery, customs auctions, financial institution recoveries, and government surplus sales. The leadership elected this weekend will be tasked with deepening institutional partnerships, enhancing training and human capital development, and strengthening the association’s national visibility.
With Abuja as the backdrop and a charged atmosphere of anticipation, the 2026 AGM and National Elections promise to be more than a ceremonial gathering they represent a pivotal chapter in the evolving story of auctioneering in Nigeria.
