Bauchi State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar
By Baba Shehu Oscu, Bauchi
Bauchi State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar has warned politicians against using thugs to perpetrate violence in the state, saying that his administration will not condone such acts, especially as the state prepares for governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
The governor made the remarks when he paid a visit to some patients injured by political thugs at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.
He explained that the state has remained the most peaceful state in the North East and wondered why some politicians desperate for power were trying to tarnish the good image of the state.
“Bauchi State is now the safest and peaceful state in the North-East but unfortunately some desperate politicians are trying to smear the image of the state. As a government we will not fold our arms and allow some people to create chaos in the state,” he warned.
He called on the people of the state to come out en-mass to exercise their franchise during the governorship and state House of Assembly elections slated for Saturday, assuring them of their security before, during and after the polls.
*Debunks allegation of retrenching workers
Meanwhile, the state government has debunked the allegation making the rounds that it is planning to retrench workers if the government is reelected for the second term.
The Acting Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Adamu Umaru Gokaru Wednesday made the clarifications while speaking to newsmen in his office in Bauchi.
He explained that the allegation was the handwork of mischief makers and some desperate politicians who are bent on blackmailing the present administration in the state.
“The Bauchi State Government has no intention of retrenching civil servants. The allegation is baseless and unfounded which is perpetrated by desperate politicians who are trying to discredit the government, especially now that the governorship election is drawing nearer,” Gokaru said.
The Acting Head of Civil service recalled that when the present administration came on board in 2015, despite the dwindling economy situation, it initiated series of developmental programmes aimed at improving the standard of civil servants.
He called on the people of the state to disregard such allegation, saying that they should always verify the authenticity of information they received before disseminating it to the public for consumption.
