FRSC certifies 20 fleet operators in Plateau
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau, on Thursday presented certificates to 20 fleet operators in the state for 2019.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Pat Emoerdi, the Corps Sector Commander in the state, said the exercise was in line with its Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme (RTSSS) introduced by the corps in 2007.
Emoerdi who was represented by Ibrahim Sadiq, a Deputy Corps Commander, said the scheme was established by FRSC to regulate the activities of fleet operators in Nigeria.
The sector commander explained that the exercise, which was an annual event, was aimed at ensuring sanity on the highways.
“The RTSSS is a scheme established in 2007 by FRSC solely to regulate the activities of fleet operators in Nigeria.
“By its mode of operation, fleet operators are to be inspected annually, and those that attain the minimum standard within the year under review are certified.
“This is the reason we are here today; to present certificates and stickers to fleet operators that we certified during the last inspection,’’ she said.
The commander commended fleet operators in the state for complying and cooperating with FRSC in actualising the RTSSS, adding that the cordial relationship had placed the state on a positive path.
She, however, decried the “non-challant’’ attitude by some fleet operators in the state, who often flouted traffic rules and regulations.
“I wish to draw your attention to the non-challant attitude of some fleet operators that do not comply with traffic rules, especially refusal to install speed limiting device, overloading, dangerous driving, speeding, driving without valid licence, use of phone while driving and driving with worn out tyres.
“I enjoin you to have a change of attitude, because anyone caught violating traffic regulations will face stiffer sanctions, “she said.
She advised organisations, schools and government agencies who had up to five vehicles on their fleet to register with the scheme.
The certified fleet operators include: Bluewater transport, Grand cereals Ltd, Nasco group, Nnaemeka transport, Nigeria Bottling Company, ECWA, Aniya pharmaceutical Ltd, Hariz petroleum, Plateau Express Services, and Glomar Hope Investment Ltd.
Others are: Highland Bottling Company, Skysun table water, God’s time is the Best transport Ltd, Chi-boy express services, TSR transit, Njama motors, Sunuvah Bakeries, Karama Transport Company, Arbet Nig. Ltd and Alhaji Sabo Mangu Transport Company. (NAN)
