PDP’s Dr. Mutawalle will be sworn-in as Zamfara Governor on Wednesday
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has on Saturday in Abuja affirmed Dr. Bello Muhammad Mutawalle, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Zamfara State governorship candidate as the Governor-elect.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said the new governor-elect and National Assembly members all of the PDP would be issued with their certificates of return on Monday in Abuja.
Yakubu also said that the 24 state assembly members, including a National Rescue Movement (NRM) member would receive their certificates next Friday in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The Supreme Court on Friday nullified all APC votes in the state and ordered that parties with second highest votes take over.
The Supreme Court validated the judgement of the Court of Appeal, Sokoto Division, which ruled that no valid primaries were conducted by the APC in Zamfara State.
In an appeal brought by the APC, the apex court ruled against the appellant and ordered a fine of N10 million against the APC.
Accordingly, the Supreme Court said candidate other than the first appellant with the highest vote stand elected and a cost of N10 million awarded against the appellant.
APC’s Mukhtar Idris, had been declared winner of the elections after he polled 534,541 votes despite controversies trailing his candidacy.
The PDP candidate came second in the election.
