Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has described the Office of Secretary of the State Government (SSG) as the apex of the administrative and political structure of the executive arm of government.
“The Office is the nucleus of the machinery of government and therefore discharges the supervisory role and coordinate the affairs of all agencies. It is also the heart of the activities of the state government,” he stressed.
Speaking while swearing-in the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government, the Governor recalled that the people of the state have given the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the mandate to steer their affairs for the next four years.
According to him, the mandate of the people is a clear testimony that they want put behind the years of misrule, cluelessness, and mismanagement of state resources.
He pointed out governance is all about security and improvement of the socio-economic well-being of the generality of the people, including the improvement of the quality of lives of the people.
Senator Mohammed observed that for the state government to meet the expectations of the people, it need to have competent, knowledgeable, experience, trusted and committed people.
The governor therefore reminded the new SSG, Chief and Deputy Chiefs of Staff that their appointments were informed by their wealth of knowledge, experience, sense of responsibility and loyalty.
“It is therefore my expectation that you will justify the confidence repose in you by bringing these attributes into play in the discharge of the duties repose in you”, he told the new appointees.
Senator Mohammed charged them to be above board and make accountability and transparency their guiding principles to restore the hope and confidence of the people.
He urged them as public officers to live and lead by example, stressing that it is not business as usual, hence the need for attitudinal change, whereas public office should not be seen as an opportunity for personal enrichment, but rather to diligently serve the people.
Senator Mohammed appealed to them to acquaint themselves with the lofty goals and objectives of the PDP in order to effectively deliver on the promises to the people.
