Anambra govt demolishes illegal structures at Nnewi

Anambra State Government has revealed its plans of placing Anambra State among the best planned States in Nigeria and West African Sub-Region.

The Chairman, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe made this known to newsmen while demolishing some illegal and unapproved structures in Nnewi.

Barrister Maduekwe frowned at the actions by some individuals who site projects within the state without approval from the relevant authorities.

He noted that the state government’s target is for Anambra State to be on the map of the best planned States in Nigeria and even in West Africa at large.

The Chairman appealed to the investors and developers to cooperate with the government so as to make the State better and for the residents to enjoy the environment.

On his part, the Acting General Manager, Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Mr. Anene Nwabufo assured that the agency will stop at nothing in ensuring that every structure in the State is guided by the law adding that such will help government generate more revenue which will be used for the benefit of Ndi Anambra.

He noted that the exercise will continue until the dream of the State government is achieved highlighting the need for every structure in the State to go through the relevant authorities, ranging from standard of the building down to quality of materials which is geared towards security of lives and properties.

The agency also visited other sites including a park around Nwanyi-Imo junction, bank road Nnewi, where they seized materials meant for erection of about ninety lock up shops.
