Armed men kill two in Plateau's Kanke LG

By Raymond Gukas, Jos
It’s another sad weekend for Gungji community in Kanke Local Government Area  of Plateau State as gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers killed two youths while on the run.
Though security operatives are yet to confirm this development, Apex News gathered from eyewitnesses in the area that the gang of three were riding on a motorcycle.
Reports had it that the youth’s in Gungji had information that armed robbery operation was taking place on the Pankshin-Langtang road and very close to Gungji, so they decided to put up a roadblock to secure their village.
Shortly after the armed men arrived the area ostensibly after the robbery operation,  they ran into the roadblock and unsure of the motive behind such barricade, one of them alighted from the bike and shot down two who died instantly.
At that point,  it was further gathered that the youth’s scamper for safety in different directions; leading to the subsequent escape of the armed men, who continue to shoot sporadically to scare away the stationed youths.
The eyewitness account further revealed that the robbers while fleeing the spot, avoided the Langtang road and diverted through the Shiwer village road and contact with people in that area to alert them of the impending danger failed because of mobile network failure.
This happened bare four days after a village in Mangu local government was attacked and 12 persons lost their lives. Another round of condolences is said to have begun in Gungji village as the Pankshin, Kanke and Langtang axis has been turned into a notorious haven for armed robbery activities; especiallyon the highway.
