An award of honour has been bestowed on the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem Okeke in recognition for his contribution to good governance in the State.
The award was presented to him by Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Anaocha Branch during their visit to his office in Awka.
Receiving the award, Dr. Okeke said, “it pays to work hard and to be humble.
“My greatest prayer is that people should see me for who I am, even after my tenure as Deputy Governor of Anambra State.”
He urged politicians to see their political offices as opportunities to serve the people and to make the difference in the society.
“You make a difference by doing what is right and letting posterity to judge you.”
Dr. Okeke thanked the association for finding him worthy for such an award and promised to always support the association.
The Deputy Governor said that the present administration would continue to uphold justice in the State and praised his principal, Governor Willie Obiano on recent inauguration of Awka Division of the Court of Appeal.
Mr. Jideofor Okongwu, Chairman NBA Anaocha, praised Dr. Okeke for his humility, describing him as an example of a good leader.
He said that Dr. Okeke’s good qualities compelled the association to honour him with the award in appreciation of contributions.
Mr. Okongwu hailed Government for the Court of Appeal inauguration in the State.
“History will remember Governor Obiano because the State has been without a Court of Appeal for more than two decades after its creation.
“For a long time, we have been striving to have Court of Appeal situated in the state; we are happy to have it now in Awka.”
Mr. Okongwu, who doubles as Chairman of Anambra Branch Chairman said it had been difficult going outside the state to appeal cases.
He said that the financial commitments in travelling to Enugu for Appeal Court matters, especially lingering cases in the past had been too much.
