Bauchi State Government has confirmed it’s commitment towards ensuring the state contingents participation in forth coming 2020 National Sports Festival slated for Edo State .
Governor Bala Mohammed gave the assurance on Monday while receiving the Unity Torch for the 20th National Sports Festival at the Government House Bauchi.
Governor Bala represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Dr. Ladan Salihu stated that the present administration is committed towards sports development to reclaim it name as Mecca of sports in the country.
He explained that the administration has renovated the 30, 000 seating capacity Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium by installing artificial astro turf that resulted the return of the state owned team, Wikki Tourists to its home ground after spending over 3 seasons playing it home matches between Plateau and Gombe states.
“I cannot emerging how Edo National Sports Festival will take place without Bauchi State, we will ensure that our contingents did not only participated but compite favourably with their counterpart from other states to justify Government investment in the sports Sector,” he said.
Also speaking, the Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abubakar Y. Sulaiman promised to give all the needed support to the State contingents, so as to excel.
He assured that they will be in Edo to provide all the necessary support to the State athletes to make the state proud during the competition.
Earlier speaking, the state Director of sports, Alhaji Maikudi Maikasuwa a long with the North East Zonal coordinator, Mohammed Kabir Datti seperately disclosed that the Unity Torch is in Bauchi State to display the sign of peace and unity before going round other states in the region and the nation entirely.
They commended the state government for showing concern towards promoting sports in the state.
Other important personalities at the occasion includes the state commissioner of youth and sports Hon.Adamu Babawuuro Manu who presented the torch of peace and unity to the state Governor, chairman house committee on sports, commissioners and some stakeholders in sports development in the state.
