Anambra warns developers against embarking on projects without approvals

By Sunny A. David
Anambra State government has warned developers against embarking on development projects in the State without prior approval.
The Executive Chairman of Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe gave the warning shortly after an operation by the Board and other agencies responsible for controlled development.
Our correspondent, reports that the demolition team, made up of the personnel of Materials Testing Laboratory and Internal Revenue Service, as well as officials of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA, Brigade, visited and demolished lock-up shops and car wash erected on public road at Magazine Layout Onitsha, contrary to Anambra State government’s directive.
They also demolished a perimeter fence erected by a yet to be identified private developer on government land, Judges Quarters, GRA, near Presidential Lodge, Onitsha, after which they proceeded to sealed off a building at Heerey Street Odakpu, Onitsha, which was showing signs of Archbishop collapse.
Occupants of the building, who had been given prior notice to quit, were mandated to vacate immediately.
According to Barrister Maduekwe the occupants had been relocated before now but some of them still use the structure for stores and warehouses.
At a building at Oba-Nnewi road Uruagu Nnewi, built without government approval, Barrister Maduekwe maintained that developers must apply and obtain approvals before building structures anywhere in the State, which according to him, is a constitutional matter.
He announced that the State government has machinery in place to sanction erring defaulters, adding that those arrested, will be charged to court.
Meanwhile, efforts made to get the alleged developers proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
