As more cases of coronavirus are being confirmed across the country, Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has cautioned his constituents in Ogbaru 2 Anambra State House Assembly constituency to desist from handshakes, hugging and all forms of social gatherings to prevent the spread of the dreaded Covid-19 in the area.
He gave the caution during the distribution of prevention kits in his constituency and Ogbaru Local Government Area in general.
The distribution of the Covid-19 prevention kits as well as sensitisation took the lawmaker to various markets, health centers, Igwe’s palace and all the Anglican, Catholic and pentecostal churches in Ogbaru.
Hon. Udeze urged them to stay safe, avoid hand shaking, hugging and always maintain a social distance from one another in this period of the Covid-19 crisis just as he encouraged them to report suspected cases of the coronavirus to relevant authorities through the toll free number provided by governnent to further contain the spread.
The lawmaker further told them to report to appropriate authorities through the toll free numbers as provided by the state Government, any suspected case of fever, cough and other symptoms of the virus.
He stated, “As the scourge of Coronavirus continues, we in Ogbaru must always adhere strictly to all the precautionary measures to ensure that this virus doesn’t spread amongst us.
“We as a people must keep distances from social activities and especially from our relatives who might be visiting from worst hit states like Lagos and the Federal Capital territory. This is not in any way an attempt to create discrimination but in a bid to ensure safety of all of us as a people.
“We must also report to appropriate authorities through the toll free numbers as provided by the state Government, any suspected case of fever, cough and other symptoms of this dreaded virus.
“In my capacity as your legislator and in collaboration of the efforts of the Anambra state Government, I have through my office ordered the purchase and distribution of coronavirus prevention kits including hand washing fonts, alcohol based hand sanitizers, alcohol based antibacterial hand wash, nose masks and elastic gloves, these are to be distributed free of charge in all the major markets in Ogbaru, all palaces of traditional rulers/Okpala house, selected Churches and Primary Health Care centers in Ogbaru Local Government Areas.
“Modalities have been put in place to ensure all markets, health centres and palace will be mounted  with hand washing fonts and presented these kits.
“I urge all benefiting churches, health centers, palaces and markets to ensure all visitors make use of these kits and to ensure the safety of these presented kits.
“I reassure you that I will do my best to ensure this scourge is prevented from raising its ugly head in our land, we must know that maintaining personal hygiene remains a priority.
“I therefore call on market leaders, church leaders and landlords to as a matter of urgency erect and enforce the use of hand washing fonts in all markets, churches and buildings that might not be captured in this distribution. Individuals who have the financial capacity can also help in this fight against this dangerous virus.”
