One year anniversary: Bauchi journalists tour projects

Some journalists in Bauchi State under the guidance of the state commissioner of information and communication, Garba Dahiru and Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Murkthar Gidado recently inspected the 16km Sade – Akuyam road in continuation of the state-wide projects seeing tour as part of the activities marking the one year anniversary of Governor Bala Mohammad-led administration in the state.

The team was received by the permanent secretary in the state ministry of work and transport Engr. Stephen Abubakar, who informed journalists that the road construction work which gulfed N3.67billion reaching 90% will be completed next month.

Engr. Abubakar said however that some township roads in Akuyam town were added to the project cost which construction works included 7 ox-box culverts, saying the contract for the project was awarded to Habibu Engineering Nig. Ltd.

Semilarly the team had earlier inspected the Bauchi School of Nursing and Midwifery where it was received by the Registrar, Alhaji Ahmed Haruna who told journalists that the renovation work was completed at over N100 million.

Haruna explained that the contract included the construction of both male and female hostels, library, science laboratories, eight VIP toilets, as well as landscaping and access roads and walk-ways.

Journalists similarly inspected Dunkurmi Primary Health Centre in Misau LGA, the 2018 Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS) Special Project executed under the present PDP administration which construction work has since been completed, but inhabitants of Dunkurmi village bitterly complained of lack of manpower to manage the centre.

The inhabitants argued that without the necessary manpower to run the centre, it would soon be overtaken by animals, birds and reptiles, thereby becoming a ghost of it.

At Azare, headquarters of Katagum LGA, the team was told by Engr. Stephen Abubakar that the two township roads, Jama’are road to bye-pass and Tafawa Balewa road with a length of 1.3km and 1.7 km respectively have a total contract sum of N1.1 billion.

Engr. Stephen Abubakar said the two roads which were almost completed need an intersection roundabout which is being constructed at a cost of N125 million, with work reaching 80% completion.

Stephen explained that the added roundabout construction become necessary to curb traffic conflicts on the Jama’are road – bye pass, as well as increase traffic flow on the roads.
