Sad as Nigeria reggae legend, Majek Fashek is dead

Majek Fashek, Nigeria reggae legend has died in an hospital in the United States on Monday June 1.2020.

Majek was born on February 6, 1949 in Benin City. He had suffered from drugs issues but was unsuccessful in rehabilitation.

The news of his death was confirmed by his manager, Omenka Uzoma Day, via a short video on Instagram, saying the “the legend has gone to be with the Lord, but this time we should all celebrate him.

“He has done a lot for Nigeria and Africa, whatever the family decides will get to you,” it said.

His 1988 album Prisoner of Conscience, which included the multiple award-winning single “Send Down the Rain”. He is also known as the “rainmaker.”

Majek was further made popular when he was contracted by former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana in the late 1980s to champion the propaganda policies of the government of military dictator, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida through Mass Mobilization for Self Reliance, Social Justice, and Economic Recovery, (MAMSER) project.

Majek worked with renowned world artistes like Jimmy Cliff, Tracy Chapman,  Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg and Beyonce.
